Making muslins for shirts

Today I am making some muslins, so Jenni can give me a find with shirt/blouse fitting on Sunday.
So far I have one for Hotpatterns Great White Shirt, New Look 6513 and McCalls 5522 done.

Curtains done

The living room curtains are done, and are now waiting for hubby to take down the old blinds and out up the new curtain rail.... so no photos of the curtains at the moment.
What can I say, they are gold with a lighter gold script pattern on them, cotton unlined curtains - nothing very exciting. Curtains are a different beast to garment sewing I think because its all off calculations of how much fabric you need, but the seams are all simple, yet the volume is hard to handle.

I am supposed to be making muslins but instead have a hankering to sew New Look 6545 in an ivory sweater knit as a cowl neck sweater. That will have to wait though as I need to make dinner.... wonder what is in the freezer?

Progress this week

Well this week I traced off and cut out the muslin for the Hotpattens shirt, and started sewing new curtains for the bay window in the living room. Each curtain is 4m wide so quite a lot of sewing.
I don't have enough header tape, though so..... need to find a fabric shop some time in the week.

Anyway that's all really.

making muslins - test garments

I've never really been one for making muslins (test garments in muslin fabric) but I have a few in my future I think.
I bought two HotPatterns and Jenni gave me one of hers and not being familiar with their sizing at all I am going to give them the muslin treatment (they do recommend this).
I also want to try a jacket from a Burda WOF magazine.
I don't have any muslin but thought I could use some of my ultra cheap fabric and an old marked duvet cover etc etc for this purpose. I think the fabric needs to be a similar weight to the final garment fabric.
I'll read up on it a bit and see what you are supposed to do, and then make mine up and take them with me when I see Jenni at the end of the month, Hopefully she can help me a bit with the fitting.
I would love a classic blouse that fitted me as I can't buy ones that fit as I seem to be all different sizes in the arms, shoulder and mid section.

Turquoise Skirt

I've almost finished making up the skirt in the same turquoise fabric. It looks great with the jacket, so I am really pleased to get a bonus piece - to suits for the price of one!
I need to press the hem and sort of the waist and I will model :-)

Thanks to Lark for reminding me of this pattern.
